Counterpoint Research shows that refurbished phones are more popular than the latest iPhones. This makes sense because refurbished products are not only cheaper than newer models but also more durable. This may surprise you, especially if you assume that refurbished means “used” and therefore defective. However, the truth is that neither could be more different. Continue reading to find out what we mean.
What makes a Refurbished item different from a Used one? And why is it good to buy refurbished?
1) Refurbished products are in better condition
A refurbished product is one that has been fully repaired, inspected, and tested to perform like a new model. It is cheaper than newer models and doesn’t come with a high price tag. This makes it more appealing to people who want to purchase them.
Experts will inspect the entire unit, including the battery, to determine if they are causing any problems. Sometimes, refurbished products don’t even have a problem. A technology consulting firm found that 68 percent of the returned products they considered “faulty” actually didn’t have a single problem. Sometimes, the inspection is so thorough that the refurbished product turns out to be better than the original!
However, products that are used don’t need to go through the same processes as new products. You will inherit the same problems that it caused its previous owner.
A word of caution though: Not all companies that sell refurbished items are trustworthy and offer the benefits they should. This means that you need to do your research. Consumer Reports recommends that customers ask questions to ensure that the product is actually refurbished and not just used. This can prove to be overwhelming and time-consuming for consumers. We recommend that you take a look at the qualifications of the company to avoid this step. Are they qualified in technical areas?
2) Refurbished items have better appearances
There are many used devices and each one is unique, making it difficult to generalize about their appearance. Major retailers such as eBay say that used items may have cosmetic wear. By definition, refurbished items will not.
Refurbished products are packaged to appear brand new, while used products won’t. You can also buy refurbished models if you are looking for bargains on more expensive and better-looking models. Products that have been discontinued are more likely to be used, and they don’t offer the same features or look.
3) Refurbished products are less of a gamble
Reputable companies will generally reduce the risk of you purchasing refurbished devices. A warranty usually covers you. Another problem is that used devices can be found almost anywhere, even on Craigslist.
You can verify reviews and credentials if you buy a refurbished device from an authorized company. A stranger from Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace will not have any of these qualifications.
It will also be hard to determine the device’s history on your own; you will need to rely upon the seller’s word. If you purchase a refurbished device from an honest company, these kinds of issues will not be a problem.
Let’s just say that if you are worried about what product to buy, and googling ” which cell phone is better used,“, then stop worrying and just relax. You get a better product than new, and you can also save the environment by buying refurbished.
